COLUMBUS, Ohio — Mr. Claude H. Clawson, 78, of Columbus, Ohio, died Friday, February 27, 2009, at his home. He was born August 3, 1930 in Cooleemee, NC, to the late Claude and Nettie Hepler Clawson. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Kenneth Clawson, and sister Alice Clawson Belton. Claude is survived by his wife, Patricia “Pat”, son David, daughters Karen and Theresa, and five grandchildren, all of Ohio, brother Jesse Marshall Clawson of Clemmons and sister Nellie Clawson Lagle of Cooleemee Regina Meed Burt On February 28, 2009, Regina Meed Burt passed away in Charlotte, North Carolina. She was born on October 29, 1918. Regina was a long-time resident of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Regina was a graduate of Western School for Women in Ohio (now part of Miami University of Ohio) and did graduate work at Brown University. She was married to the late Dr. Richard L. Burt, former Chairman of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Bowman Gray School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Regina spent a lifetime volunteering her time and energies for many causes. She was especially dedicated to the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts in Winston-Salem. She was also a very active participant in the Piedmont Craftsmen Guild. Being an avid bird watcher, Regina spent many, many hours recording migrating birds. Her love and association with the Forsyth County Audubon Society afforded her many opportunities to study and travel to observe birds in their natural habitats. Regina was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Richard L. Burt; and her son, Jonathan M. Burt. Regina is survived by three children: Duncan T. Burt and his wife, Candice of Great Falls, Virginia; Deborah King and her husband Michael of Charlotte, North Carolina; Priscilla Coe and her husband, Mick of Fort Meyers, Florida; and one granddaughter, Hilary L. Burt of New York City. A Funeral was held Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at Westlawn Gardens of Memory, 6135 Ridgecrest Road, Clemmons, North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorial contributions be made in their mother’ s name to The Forsyth County Audubon Society, P.O. Box 10952, Winston-Salem, North Carolina 27108. Barbara Barker Gabard Barbara Barker Gabard, 74, passed away at her home on Saturday, February 28, 2009. She was born on January 27, 1935, in Forsyth County, NC, to the late Gurney and Girtha Barker. She is survived by one daughter, Debra Gabard; three sons, Randy Gabard and his wife, Tammy, Mark Gabard and his wife, Tammy, and Kevin Gabard and his wife, Penny; three grandchildren, Christina and her special friend, Mike, who was also a dear friend to the whole family, Travis and his fiancee, Alexis, and Nikki and her special friend, Garrett; one sister, Brenda Pendry; and nephew, Kelly Pendry and his wife, Robin. A Funeral Service for Mrs. Gabard was held Tuesday, March 3, at the Frank Vogler & Sons Clemmons Chapel. Interment followed in Westlawn Gardens of Memory. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Mrs. Gabard’ s name to Kate B. Peggy Blackburn Mrs. Peggy Blackburn, 69, of Lewisville, NC, passed away peacefully at her home Friday February 27, 2009. She was born in Mt. Airy, NC Dec. 26 1939 to the late Carl and Minnie Haynes. She met and later married Arnold Blackburn on June 6th, 1959 and they shared a wonderful life together. Surviving are Arnold Blackburn, their son Greg and daughter-in-law Kathy, two grand daughters Katie and Kristen of Leesburg, VA her sister Jackie Pillsworth and her brother Ronald Haynes, her two nephews Jerry Nowlin and Quinn Pillsworth and dearest family friend and great neighbor Betty Tysons. Edna Grey Sessoms Foster Mrs. Edna Grey Sessoms Foster, 75, of Winston Salem, passed away Thursday, February 26, 2009 at her home. Mrs. Foster was born September 8, 1933 in Sampson County, NC to the late Jeffrey Rawdon Sessoms and Sarah Eliza Sessoms. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and a great friend to all that knew her. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers Jeffery R. Sessoms Jr. and Hubert Dee Sessoms. Surviving are her husband of 49 years Milton Harrison Foster, daughter Lynne Foster Palm, Lynne’ s husband Dana, and son Glenn Harrison Foster, all of Winston Salem.; grandchildren, Morgan Lindsay Palm, Danielle Grace Palm, Hunter Gray Palm, Landon Harrison Foster, and Courtney Rae Foster. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the many special friends and neighbors along with the church family of Hope Moravian Church and Hospice of Winston Salem for their love and support. Christiaphena (Chris) Jordan Moffitt Christiaphena (Chris) Jordan Moffitt, wife of Cy Moffitt, entered her heavenly rest on Thursday, February 27, 2009, after an extended illness. She was born in Elkin, NC, the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. E.G. Jordan, both deceased. Surviving are the special loves of her life, her husband, Cy, of Clemmons, to whom she was married for 57 years and a son, Marc Moffitt, of High Point. Chris was also the mother of a deceased son, Joel Moffitt. Chris will be remembered by many whose lives she touched as a Bible teacher in homes and churches in Greensboro, High Point and Raleigh. She will also be remembered for her lovely soprano voice, blending in duet with her husband, Cy, as they sang to the glory of God. Mrs. Moffitt attended Elkin Public Schools and received advanced voice training from private teachers in Winston-Salem and Julliard School of Music in New York City. She is survived by one sister, Louvene Jordan Bennett of High Point, wife of Dr. Kent Bennett, now deceased; brothers Mayford Jordan and wife, Thelma of Elkin; David Jordan and wife, Jean, of Clemmons; and Dale Jordan and wife, Tamrah, of Ft. Mill, SC; and a brother-in law, Bob Moffitt, of Roanoke, VA. One brother, Bernard Jordan, and wife Francis are both deceased. Surviving also are many nieces and nephews. A service honoring Mrs. Moffitt’ s life was held at Vogler’ s Chapel in Clemmons on Sunday, March 1, at 3:00 p.m. A private internment was conducted Monday afternoon at the Westminister Gardens in Greensboro. Memorial gifts in her honor may be sent to the Greater Piedmont Teen Challenge, P.O Box 77914, Greensboro, NC 27417. The family wishes to express gratitude to the Clemmons Nursing Home for their care during her last days. Edith Burwell Roberts Ms. Edith Burwell Roberts, 90, of Clemmons, passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at The Elms of Tanglewood. She was born March 22, 1918 in Stokes County to John William and Edna Page Burwell. Mrs. Roberts was a member of Clemmons First Baptist Church and retired with 21 years of service from AT&T. After her retirement she was a volunteer for 20 years at Forsyth Medical Center. She was preceded in death by a son, Larry Roberts, four sisters and three brothers. Surviving her are two daughters, Jan Zimmerman and husband Benny of Clemmons and Kathy Jo Roberts of Winston-Salem; three grandchildren, Heather Bennett of Columbia, SC, Kylie Roberts of Boston MA and Rocklin Roberts of Florida; two great grandchildren; two brothers, Hughes Burwell and wife Jean of Graham and Joe Burwell and wife Peggy of Burlington; a sister, Mrs. Richard G. Hall of King and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held Saturday at Clemmons First Baptist Church with Dr. Robby Phillips, Dr. Steve Foster and Rev. Paul Mullen officiating. Burial followed at Crestview Memorial park in Rural Hall. Memorials may be made to Clemmons First Baptist Church Mountain Outreach Program, 3530 Clemmons Rd., Clemmons, NC 27012.
