- Addie “Winnie” Lorena Cook
Addie “Winnie” Lorena Cook, age 72 of Frye Bridge Road, Clemmons passed away Sunday at her home. A service of remembrance will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday (2-20-2009), at her home 197 Frye Bridge Road with Rev. Richard Martin officiating. Addie was born in Forsyth County, April 19, 1936 to Lawrence Drewery Williams and Margaret Elizabeth Winfield Williams. She was a retired employee of AT &T Winston Salem, and of the Baptist Faith. She was preceded in death by her parents, and husbands Charles Rick Scott and James Cook. Surviving are: one son, Greg Scott of Clemmons; one sister, Clara W. Farmer of Clemmons; and one brother, Arnold Gray Williams of Plano, Texas.

June L. Herpel
June L. Herpel, 88, of Advance, NC, passed away peacefully at Baptist Hospital, Winston-Salem, on February 13, 2009, after a brief illness. Born on October 4th, 1920, in Milwaukee, WI, she lived, studied and worked in widely varied places including Syracuse, NY, St. Louis, MO, Philadelphia, PA, and most recently, Advance, NC. Many will remember her husband, George Herpel, prominent member of the Bermuda Village Community and nationally known advertising businessman and educator, who passed away in 2004. Friends and relatives visited them for over thirty years at their summer home in the Adirondacks near Elizabethtown, NY. Mrs. Herpel’ s interests included music, art, antiques, ornithology, world travel and philanthropy. She was a cherished resident of Bermuda Village for many years and will be greatly missed. Survivors include her sons, Mark and John Herpel; her grandchildren, Mark A. Herpel, George L. Herpel and June M. Herpel; and her brother, William Stamm. A Memorial Service will be held in the Bermuda Village Clubhouse Living Room at a time to be announced later. There will be a subsequent Private Graveside Committal at Forsyth Memorial Park, Winston-Salem. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Audubon Society, 225 Varick St, 7th Floor, NY, NY 10014, Audubon.org, or to the Clemmons Presbyterian Church, 3930 Clemmons Road, Clemmons, NC 27012 www.clemmons presbyterian.org.

Donald Mack “Don” Gentry
Psalm 34:6, “This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of his troubles.” Donald Mack “Don” Gentry, 57, of East Bend, NC went home to be with the Lord in his sleep, Wednesday, February 11, 2009. He was a man who put God first in everything. Don was born January 3, 1952 in Davidson County, the son of the late Paul Wortham Gentry and Norma Hester Gentry Smith. He was a graduate of West Forsyth High School and was a faithful member of Bible Baptist Church, where he played the piano for the choir and with their Nursing Home Ministry. Don worked 20 years for Wilson Heating and Air before starting his own company, Don’ s Heating and Air Inc. 17 years ago. His passion in life was his family and never missed a day of work or church service. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Judy G. Gibbs. Surviving to cherish his memory is his wife of 38 years, Beth Nowell Gentry of the home, three children, Angie Mims and husband, David of East Bend, Brian Gentry and wife Cindy of Winston-Salem, Matthew Gentry of East Bend; four grandchildren, Delia and Katherine Mims, Reese and Riley Gentry, two brothers; Larry Gentry and wife Brenda of Boonville, NC, Randy D. Gentry and wife Lavonne of Southport, NC, a uncle, Ernest “Cub” Hester and wife Edna of Lexington, NC, a number of nieces and nephews and many special friends. The Funeral Service were conducted Saturday, February 14 at Bible Baptist Church officiated by Larry Gentry. Memorials may be made to Bible Baptist Church, 6350 Styers Ferry Road, Clemmons, NC 27012. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is assisting the Gentry Family.

Phyllis McGee Lavin
Mrs. Phyllis McGee Lavin, 83 of Clemmons, died Sunday, February 8, 2009 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mrs. Lavin was born September 12, 1925 in Marshall, Michigan a daughter of the late Harry McGee and the late Dorothy Schweir McGee. She graduated from Western Michigan College in 1950, and was a school teacher in Romulus, Michigan. She also worked at the world famous Win Schuler restaurant in Marshall with best friend, Jean Bolinger. Mrs. Lavin resided in Cleveland, Ohio, Traverse City Michigan, Venice, Florida and Winston-Salem. She was a lifelong student of the bible, a powerful witness to the love of Jesus Christ, and had an extensive prayer ministry. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald T. Lavin and brother, Brad McGee. She is survived by her children, Karen Reid and husband Bill of Cleveland, Ohio, Nancy Golden and husband, Steve of Clemmons, and Daniel Lavin and wife Sue of Spring Lake, Mich. grandchildren, Andrew, Mallory, Erika, and Sam. A memorial service was conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 12, 2009 at St. John’ s Lutheran Church with Rev. Jim Knuth officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’ s Lutheran Church and School. Galatians 2:20.

Lillie Byerly Taylor Vogler
Mrs. Lillie Byerly Taylor Vogler, 95, formerly of the Elms at Tanglewood in Clemmons, died February 10, 2009 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born January 4, 1914 in Davie County to the late Charles Joseph and Georgia Byerly Taylor. Mrs. Vogler was a member of Advance United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, T.W. “Jack” Vogler in 1993; a brother, John Taylor and two sisters, Erma King and Dorothy Outland. Surviving her is a daughter, Barbara Vogler Waldrop of Advance and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service was conducted at Advance United Methodist Church Cemetery, with Rev. Cheryl Skinner and Rev. Jeff Carter officiating. Memorials may be made to Advance United Methodist Church, PO Box 2021, Advance, NC 27006 or to the charity of the donor’ s choice.
