Mr. Charles Edward Greene, 83, of Clemmons, died Thursday, January 15, 2009 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born April 2, 1925 in Forsyth County, the son of the late, Mamie Greene. Mr. Greene was a member of Heavenview United Pentecostal Church. He was a graduate of Atkins High School and attended A&T University. He served with the U. S. Army and U. S. Air Force during World War II. He was an avid sports fan and loved gardening. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Washington Greene; three sons, Michael Greene of Clemmons, Ronald Greene of Queens, NY and Charles Eric Greene and wife, Eileen of Salt Lake City UT; one daughter, Laurie Martinez and husband, Rene of Clemmons; seven grandchildren, Ian Collins, Ronald Greene, Jr., Nicholas Chambers, Michael Greene, Mariah Martinez and Emma Martinez, all of Winston-Salem and Dominic Greene of Salt Lake City, UT; one great-grandchild, Arie Greene of Winston-Salem and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The Funeral Service were conducted Monday at Heavenview United Pentecostal Church with Pastor Harold Linder officiating. Burial followed in Westlawn Gardens of Memory. Lawrence (Mike) A. Taffe Lawrence (Mike) A. Taffe departed this world for heaven on January 7, 2009. Mike was a devoted Catholic, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was born on November 30, 1924, to parents who had immigrated from Ireland and Australia. He was one of the very best of the Greatest Generation dedicated to serving his country. A uniformed man for over 27 years he fought for his country in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam earning many decorations including two Bronze Stars. Additionally, he served three tours in Germany, two tours in Korea, and one tour in Vietnam. As an Army man, he excelled at instructing, especially in tank warfare at the USA military armor school and at the New Mexico military academy. Mike is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Elisabeth; his six children, Terry, Jake, Mike, Martin, Kevin, and Laura; 10 grandchildren; and one great grandchild. A memorial service for Mike was held Saturday, January 17, 2009, at Holy Family Catholic Church. Richard Lee Tilley Sr. Mr. Richard Lee Tilley, Sr., 64, of Winston-Salem passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born October 11, 1944 in Forsyth County to Joe Franklin and Eva Swain Tilley. Mr. Tilley was an avid golfer and has loved playing for several years. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren and family. He was a football coach for the Tiny Greyhounds, Lewisville Titans, and baseball coach at South Little League for several years, and a life-coach of many kids. He was also a long-time member of the West Forsyth YMCA. He loved to fish, and loved to vacation at Cherry Grove. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Johnny Wayne and Bobby Joe Tilley; two sisters, Dorothy Hanner and Helen Bauguess; and a grandson, Tyler Wayne Tilley. Surviving is his wife of 42 years, Mary Tilley; two sons, Johnny Wayne Tilley and fianc? Angie, Richard “Ricky” Lee Tilley, Jr. and wife Kristan; a former daughter-in-law, April Tilley; five grandchildren, Trent, Trace, Raygan, Nicolas and Kaylin; four brothers, Charlie Tilley and wife Betty, Buck Tilley and wife Opal, Jerry Tilley and wife Dorothy, and Freddie Tilley; one sister, Lois Stull and husband Chuck of Hyattsville, MD; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Jan. 17 at Glory Road Baptist Church with Pastor Charles H. Whitaker and Pastor Larry T. Neal officiating. Burial followed in Parklawn Memorial Park. Mary “Cathy” Little Baskin Mrs. Mary “Cathy” Little Baskin, 50, of Clemmons died Monday, January 12, 2009, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born October 6, 1958 in Buncombe County, NC. She was a Registered Nurse with Hospice. She was a member of Temple Emanuel. Cathy, who lived and loved life to the fullest, is on her journey to finding a new peace. She was a woman with great energy and spirit. All who knew and loved Cathy have fond memories of her working with her flowers, painting, making soap, and creating exquisite jewelry. Cathy most loved laughter and a good debate, knowing the two go hand in hand. She has been a long time advocate for many issues of concern to humanity and has given freely to those in need. Cathy asks all of us to “Look for me in the little things in life.” She was preceded in death by her mother, Pamela McFee Little. Surviving are her husband, Timothy “Tim” Watson Baskin of the home; a daughter, April Robertson and husband, Timothy of Lexington; two sons: Timothy Raymond Baskins of Clemmons and Jonathan Taylor Baskin of Winston-Salem; six grandchildren: Sarah, Brooke, Tyler, Catherine Haley, Gage and Parker; a sister, Kelly Hill of Winston-Salem; and her father, Ronald J. Little of Winston-Salem. Funeral services were held Wednesday, January14, at Salem Funeral Home Chapel, with Rabbi Mark Strauss-Cohn officiating. Memorials may be made to Temple Emanuel, 201 Oakwood Dr., Winston-Salem, NC 27103. Mary Katherine Tucker Mary Katherine Tucker, 81, died on Sunday, January 18, 2009 at home after years of declining health. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Payton Tucker. Surviving is her daughter, Pat King and her husband Charles. She also leaves behind a brother-in-law L.C. Tucker and wife Juanita of East Bend and a special “Sis” Thelma Boyd of Clemmons. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews as well as lots of friends who loved her very much. Mary will be remembered for her kindness and generosity. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, on January 21, 2009 at Westlawn Gardens of Memory with Pastor Gary Byrum officiating. Pat and Charles will be receiving friends and family at their home in Clemmons. The family would like to send special thanks to the wonderful staff at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home and the many in home care staff who attended to our Mom, especially her nurse, Debbie Foltz, who showed such kindness and compassion to her.
