Obituaries for Jan. 10

- Mildred Brown Smith
Mildred Brown Smith, 86, of Clemmons died Monday, Dec. 31, 2007, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Mrs. Smith was born Jan. 26, 1921, in Forsyth County to Thomas Sanford and Nanny Carmichael Brown. She graduated from Walkertown High School in 1937 and was the first woman to receive a business degree from Forsyth Technical Institute. Mrs. Smith retired from Fairchild Burns Corp. as assistant personnel director. After retirement, she became a very successful flea market dealer. She enjoyed flea markets and yard sales along the entire eastern coast of the United States and the Longest Yard Sale in the Midwest. Mrs. Smith was an active member of Home Moravian Church where she was part of the Women’ s Fellowship. She was also a member of Clemmons Civic Club. Surviving are her husband, Henry Herman Smith, whom she married Sept. 9, 1939; two sons, Henry Herman Smith Jr. and Timothy David Smith, both of Winston-Salem; a granddaughter, Jennifer S. Edwards of Jacksonville, Fla.; a great-grandson, Forest Edwards; and a sister, Betty B. Monson of St. Paul, Minn. A graveside service was conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008, at Salem Moravian Graveyard, with the Rev. Scott Venable officiating. Jack Norman Pyle
Mr. Jack Norman Pyle, 77, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born on May 22, 1930, in Kenova, W.Va., to James Crit Pyle and Dolly Smith Pyle. Mr. Pyle lived most of his life in North Carolina. He retired from Old Dominion Freight Lines. He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda M. Pyle. Mr. Pyle is survived by two daughters, Jacqueline Pyle of the home and Diane Taylor of Rural Hall; a son, Ronald Alligood and his wife, Dianne, of Mount Airy; and four grandchildren, Nicole Casstevens, Grace Alligood, Melody Alligood and Cheyenne Alligood. He was loved by his family and many others and was a very kind person. A graveside service was conducted Wednesday, Jan. 9, at Yadkin Valley Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Ronnie Craddock officiating.
