- Herbert Lee Harper
Herbert Lee Harper, 78 of Franklin, Tenn., formerly of Clemmons, died May 14. He graduated from Clemmons High School in 1945 and received his bachelor’s degree from David Lipscomb University in 1949 where he was a member of the baseball team. He was a retired Executive Director of the Tennessee Historical Commission, where he served for 37 years. He was a charter board member and served in various officer positions with the Carter House, Carnton Plantation and Williamson Co. Heritage Foundation; was a member and board member of numerous state & national historical organizations; and served as the State Preservation Deputy and Officer representing the State of Tennessee in Washington, D.C. He was honored by the State Senate and House of Representatives at the capitol by resolution with a ceremony for his dedicated service to the State of Tennessee. He was a founding member and elder of Brentwood Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by parents, George and Margaret Hauser Harper; a brother, Miller Harper; and sisters, Pauline Harper and Alta Warner.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Bettye Anderson Harper of Franklin, Tenn.; sons, Herbert L. “Herb” Harper Jr. and wife Pam of Franklin and Danny M. Leverette and wife Tammy of Spring Hill, Tenn.; daughters, Lois Peden and husband Steve of Spring Hill, Lola Loring and husband Steve of Franklin, Margaret Curtis and husband Ray of Mocksville, and Melissa Orr and husband Gary of Franklin; brothers, James Harper and wife Gladys of Clemmons, Carl Harper and wife Sue of Franklin, and Neal Harper and wife Lou Ann of Clemmons; sisters, Hazel Sweet of Clemmons, Juanita Carter and husband Thurman of Mt. Airy, and Dora Connor and husband Clyde of Yadkinville; grandchildren, Brad Peden, Brooke Kalb, Lindsay King, Whitney Loring, Don and Jessica Curtis, Kim Stotler, Al, Curt and Ellen Harper, Andrew and Anderson Leverette, Meleah and Abby Orr; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Brentwood Church of Christ with David Thomley officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Pauline Tise Forrest
Pauline Tise Forrest, 91, of Lewisville died May 16 at her home. She was born March 19, 1916 in Winston-Salem to Jonah A. and Amelia Bruce Tise. She was retired from Western Electric with 27 years of loyal service. She was a member of No Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Mocksville. She loved to travel and quilt. She was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Forrest Sr.; two sisters, Marjorie T. Adams and Louise Adams; and three brothers, Jim A. Tise, Richard T. Tise and Charlie Tise.
Surviving are a son, James “Jim” Alexander Forrest Jr. and wife Becky of Winston-Salem; two grandsons, Timothy C. Forrest and Daniel A. Forrest of Pfafftown; and four great-grandchildren, Trent, Trey, Alex and Charles.
Funeral services were held at No Creek Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Eddie Fowler officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to No Creek Primitive Baptist Church, 222 Aubrey Merrell Road, Mocksville, NC 27028, or Hospice and Palliative CareCenter, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.

Ursula Cornatzer Beck
Ursula Cornatzer Beck of Lewisville died May 15 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. She was born in Davie County to Bob and Jessie McCullough Cornatzer. She retired from P.H. Hanes Knitting Co. and was a member of Lewisville United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her husband, John H. Beck of the home; a daughter, Lynda Delph and husband John Gordon Delph of Fort Mill, S.C.; and two grandchildren, Ashley Delph of Raleigh and John Delph of Charlotte.
A memorial service was held at Lewisville United Methodist Church with Rev. Charles Turner officiating. A private burial service was also held. William A. Ellis Jr.
William A. “Al” Ellis Jr., 75, of Mocksville died May 16. He was born January 2, 1932, one of 13 children, to William Albert Ellis and Nancy McBride Ellis. He grew up in Farmington and married Betty Frost of Mocksville. He was a mechanic by trade and the owner of South Main Motor Company and 601 Motor Company of Mocksville. He was a craftsman who was very skilled working with his hands. He loved his Tennessee walking horses. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Ben, Gilmer, Luther and Francis “Shorty” Ellis; and four sisters, Louise Bennet, Katherine Ellis, Ruth Sheek and Betty Frye.
Surviving are four children, Mark Ellis of Mocksville, Tim Ellis and wife Shari of Raleigh, Brent Ellis and wife Lucia of Mocksville and Kimberly Ellis Towery and husband Scott of Lewisville.; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ausbon Ellis of Advance and Gene Ellis of Mocksville; and two sisters, Nancy Dinkins and Patsy Sheets, both of Yadkinville.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel with Rev. R. Jeff Carter officiating. Burial followed at Macedonia Moravian Church.

Alice Virginia Lee Owen
Alice Virginia Lee Owen, 87, of Winston-Salem died May 16 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, after three months of declining health. She was born September 7, 1919, in Davidson County to Fred Wilson Lee Sr. and Elizabeth Alice Grubb Lee. She was a member of Linwood United Methodist Church and was a retired employee with the Lexington City schools. She was preceded in death by a brother, Fred W. Lee Jr.
Surviving are her husband of 67 years, Cuther Elza Owen of the home; adaughters Reeta Owen Duffey of Lewisville and Kay Spell Fagan and husband William E. of Evans, Ga.; grandchildren Brett Terill Duffey of Winston-Salem, Dr. Jade Christopher Spell and wife Lori of New Market, Md., and Jamie Patrick Spell of Atlanta, Ga.; great-grandchildren Brett Terill Duffey II of Winston-Salem and Bethany Ava Spell of New Market, Md.; stepgrandchildren Karen Hatch and husband Brian of Delaware and William H. Fagan and wife Lori of South Carolina; and stepgreat-grandchildren, Savannah Hatch, Austin Hatch, Wil Fagan and Blake Fagan.
A private family graveside service was held at Forest Hill Memorial Park with Rev. Cynthia Arnold officiating.

Jeanette Nixon Wohlford
Jeanette Nixon Wohlford, 85, of Winston-Salem died May 15. She was born in Riner, Va., on October 5, 1921, to the late Wellington Lee and Clara Richardson Nixon. She was a faithful member at Covenant Presbyterian Church while her health permitted. She worked at and retired from King’s Department Store. She was preceded in death by a sister, Verbena Ayers.
Surviving are her husband of 65 years, Ralph Lee Wohlford; three sons, Stephen Wohlford and wife Jane of Clemmons, Roger Wohlford and wife Eve of Greenwood, S.C., and Richard Wohlford and wife Melanie of Lewisville; four grandchildren, Amy Fearrington, Lori Saunders, Colin Wohlford and Tristan Wohlford; three great-grandchildren, Kayla and Sydney Fearrington and Ryan Saunders; and a sister, Almena Criner of Christiansburg, Va.
A graveside service was held at Parklawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel with Rev. Kevin Conley officiating.

Sylvia Sechrist Messick
Sylvia Sechrist Messick, 74, of Winston-Salem died May 15 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born May 18, 1932, in Forsyth County to Charles James and Lelia Snow Sechrist. She was a loyal wife, loving mother and proud “Maw-Maw” to her granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her husband, William G. Messick, in 1999.
Surviving are her daughter, Debbie M. Harrison and husband Dean of Clemmons; three granddaughters, Deanna, Dawn and Denise; a brother, Ralph Sechrist of Winston-Salem; three sisters, Dorothy Best and Betty Bledsoe, both of Winston-Salem, and Patricia Lyall of North Wilkesboro; a number of nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Funeral services were held at Calvary Baptist Church with Dr. Guy Hipp and Dr. Steve Corts officiating. Burial followed in Forsyth Memorial Park.

Michael Foster Gaddy
Michael Foster Gaddy, 49, of Wilkesboro died May 17 at Wilkes Regional Medical Center. He was born May 29, 1957, in Caldwell County to Fred and Betty Lou Foster Gaddy. He was owner and operator of Gaddy Designs and also a realtor and an appraiser. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his father.
Surviving are his wife, Landa E. Gaddy of the home; a daughter, Shanna Bumgarner and husband Eddie of North Wilkesboro; a son, Michael Foster and wife Pamela of Lewisville; his mother, Betty Lou Foster Gaddy of North Wilkesboro; two sisters, Debbi Windsor and husband Steve of Wilkesboro and Laura Wills and husband Benson of North Wilkesboro; two brothers, Rick Gaddy and wife Beverly of Wilkesboro and Bill Gaddy and wife Eileen of Valle Crucis; his grandmother, “Specs” Foster, of North Wilkesboro; and four grandchildren, Mackenzie Foster, Trevor Foster, Justin Bumgarner and Isaac Bumgarner.
A graveside service was held at Mountlawn Memorial Park with Rev. Dean Rector officiating.
