Prior to the start of the NCHSAA 4-A baseball playoffs, West Forsyth shortstop Garrison Lassiter predicted that his team’s three-game losing streak would quickly be forgotten once the post season got underway.
He was right.
Led by the hitting of Lassiter, Jeff Gonza and Ryan Todd, West belted visiting South Rowan 9-2 to earn their 20th win of the season. Now 20-5 overall, the Titans were set to face Greensboro Grimsley in a second round matchup on Tuesday night. The winner of that game will meet the North Mecklenburg-Northwest Guilford winner on Friday.
“We needed to get some confidence early and fortunately that’s what happened,” mentioned West assistant coach Kevin McIntosh. “Chad (Jarvis, West’s starting pitcher) got us going with a 1-2-3 start in the first and then Garrison hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the inning. Those two things set the tone for the rest of the night.”
