West baseball team clinches conference title

Living up to preseason predictions, the West Forsyth varsity baseball team clinched the Central Piedmont Conference regular season championship last week.
Taking on the only conference opponent that still had a shot at the frontrunning Titans, West battled past East Rowan in nine innings to secure their third CPC crown in the past four years. For head coach Randy Pope, the victory marked his fifth conference title in nine years at West.
The win also gives the Titans the number one seed in the upcoming CPC tournament. West, which will host the event, will receive a first round bye and will play a semifinal game on Friday night at 7:30.
Against East, West got a quality start from pitcher Alex Robertson and led 5-4 in the sixth before East managed to scratch out a run to even the score.
The Titans broke the tie with a run in the top of the ninth. After Ryan Todd reached on an error, Chris Rogers moved him into scoring position with his third sacrifice bunt of the game.
