Wins over Tabor, ND give West control of CPC

A grand slam home run by Garrison Lassiter and scoreless relief pitching by Greg Holt helped the West Forsyth varsity baseball team reach two goals last Friday night — control of their own destiny in the race for the conference title and the dismissal of the notion that their chief in-county rival has their number.
After suffering their only two losses of the season in games against Mount Tabor, the Titans reversed their fortunes in game three, holding off a late Spartan charge to gain a 9-8 victory. Coupled with a surprisingly one-sided 8-5 triumph at North Davidson earlier in the week, the win lifted the West CPC record to 8-1, a mark that virtually assures them of at least a share of the regular season crown.
With one more conference win against either East Rowan, South Rowan (on Friday) or at home against Davie County next Tuesday, the Titans will clinch their third CPC title in the past four years.
“We’re in the driver’s seat,” noted assistant coach Kevin McIntosh. “But we haven’t won it yet.”
