Oddly enough, for a group that features three newcomers in its top seven, a new head coach and a desperate need for new home courts, winning has certainly become old hat.
Meet the 2007 West Forsyth boys tennis team.
Led by freshman top seed Alex Weber and nine other players that can fill a starting slot at any given time, the unbeaten Titans are finally in the hunt for a long-awaited conference title. In recent CPC play, they took two more steps towards reaching that goal by knocking off Mount Tabor 6-3 and East Rowan 9-0.
Asked about the windy playing conditions during Monday’s victory over East, the response by coach Paul Swindler was brief and to the point.
“No problem,” he noted. “We’re used to difficult conditions.”
Swindler was referring to the lack of court space on the West campus. Since construction for a new school auditorium devoured three of the courts last summer, the West boys and girls teams have been forced to face adversity in the form of constant road trips.
