West baseball goes 1-for-2 in city-county tournaments

Great pitching, timely hitting and solid defense. When your baseball team fires on all cylinders, there isn’t much for a coach to do except enjoy the ride.
Such was the case for West Forsyth’s Brad Bovender after his virtually unstoppable junior varsity squad steamrolled its way to the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County championship held at Reagan High School last week.
Bovender was all smiles after the Titans pounded tourney foes Reagan, Mount Tabor and East Forsyth en route to the title. West pitchers allowed a total of just five hits in three games while raising their team’s overall record to 11-1.
“This is an amazing group,” marveled Bovender after the Titans shut down East Forsyth 5-1 in the championship game. “They hit the ball well, they play good defense and they’re very focused. And our pitching has been unreal.”
Giving credence to the latter claim were the performances by Titan starters Dustin Myers, Tyler Coyle and Ben Currie.
