Titans knock off Reagan in WS/FC opener

Bidding for their first Winston-Salem/Forsyth County high school baseball title since 2002, West Forsyth wasted little time in dispensing visiting Reagan in Monday’s first round play.
The Titans banged out 16 hits against five Reagan pitchers and cruised to an 11-1 win. The game, which was the first varsity meeting between the two schools, lasted just five innings. Reagan had qualified for the tournament by beating Atkins in a play-in game last week.
In Monday’s contest, the Titans threatened in the first but failed to score. In the second, Jeff Gonza’s two-run homer to centerfield ignited a five-run outburst that gave West a commanding lead.
The Titans added another run in the third, three more in the fourth and two in the fifth. Reagan scored its run on a bases-loaded walk in the third.
Other than that inning, when he issued three walks, Titan starter Alex Robertson kept the Raiders in check. He allowed six hits while improving his record to 2-0.
