Manns is ‘The Man’ at 140, wins 4-A state title

By Chris Mackie - Years of blood, sweat and tears culminated with the greatest possible reward for West Forsyth wrestler Lawrence Manns last weekend — a high school state championship.
Competing in the 140-pound division of the NCHSAA 4-A tournament at the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Manns manhandled Savva Kostis in the championship round and walked away as West’s first individual state champion in over 10 years.
“He was awesome!” exhuberant Titan head coach Mike Bryant said following the 8-4 win by Manns on Saturday night. “He’s worked unbelievably hard to get here and he deserves this.”
