West wrestling team places second in Midwest regional

By Chris Mackie - The West Forsyth wrestling team claimed two individual crowns but missed by a mere four points of winning the team title at the NCHSAA 4-A Midwest regional last weekend.
The runner-up finish provides added motivation for the Titans heading into this Saturday’s 4-A state championships at the Joel Coliseum in Winston-Salem.
West, which recently finished second in the state in dual team competition, received championship performances from Remy Tamer and Lawrence Manns. Tamer won the 125 crown with a 13-3 decision over Tadarrin Phronebarger of West Charlotte. Manns beat East Forsyth’s Nathan Phelps 8-4 to take the title at 140.
West finished the tournament with 158 1/2 points. Mount Tabor won the team championship with a score of 162. South Rowan, another CPC school, was third with a score of 107.
