Playoff loss to Vance ends West season West’s Amanti Ricks battles inside. By Chris Mackie - An aggressive Charlotte Vance basketball team seized control early and then held off a late charge by West Forsyth to earn a 55-46 victory in the first round of the NCHSAA 4-A girls varsity tournament in Clemmons last week. West, which entered the game on a hot streak after a solid showing in the Central Piedmont Conference tournament, was stymied in the earlygoing and trailed 20-9 after one period of play. The Titans gained offensive momentum in the second quarter and trimmed the deficit to five late in the period. But Vance, which had nine players reach the scoring column, held off a second-half Titan rally and evened its record at 11-11. West cut the Vance lead to three points late in the game but...
