Off and running: Titan offense powers season-opening wins

By Chris Mackie - Their pitching is formidable but it was offensive firepower that fueled West Forsyth’s wins over Alexander Central and Forbush in high school baseball play last week.
The Titans scored early and often in both games, combining for 17 runs and 20 hits in the season-opening victories. The quick start gave credence to their current status as the second ranked 4-A team in the state. It also gave the West coaching staff another reason to smile about a team that enters the 2007 season with unlimited potential.
“The overall results were good and I’m pleased with the way we’re swinging the bats,” admitted Titan head coach Randy Pope. “But we can perform better, especially on the mound. We helped our opponents set the table a little bit.”
