Hoping to create some momentum for this week’s Central Piedmont Conference opener against Reynolds, the Titan girls and boys teams bumped off Parkland in local high school nonconference play. In girls action, West went on a 16-3 run in the second quarter to romp past the Mustangs 47-29.The win evened the West record at 3-3. Individually, Elizabeth Maas and Amber Miller paced the Titans. With Maas dominating the inside and Miller hot from the outside, they combined for 13 second-quarter points and teamed for 26 for the game. Maas led the way with 14 and also had a number of blocked shots on the defensive end of the court. • In boys play, West’s starting frontcourt combined for 46 points and 25 rebounds in a 68-60 triumph over the Mustangs. Forward Alan Jones cranked out a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead the way. Kyle Boardman followed with 17 points and six rebounds while Travaughn Long had 11 points and eight rebounds. “We’re very pleased with our inside production,” mentioned West head coach David Laton. “Travaughn and Kyle were both standouts for us last year and the addition of Alan has made us even stronger.” The win was West’s third in a row and gave the young Titans a confidence boost heading into Friday’s matchup at Reynolds. The Demons were 3-3 after a win over Reagan last week. “I’ve always said that every conference game is big and this one is no different,” added Laton. “West and Reynolds has a great rivalry and we’re looking forward to opening up (conference play) against them.” |
