Titans pound Reagan 44-13

West’s Ricky Finkley returns the opening kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown.
By Chris Mackie - Playing at home against an overmatched, winless opponent, the West Forsyth Titans were supposed to dominate their game against second-year Reagan High School in last Friday’s non-conference football play.
They did not disappoint.
From the opening kickoff — which West’s Ricky Finkley returned 95 yards for a touchdown — until the final whistle, the Titans physically controlled every aspect of the game. It was a “feel good” 44-13 victory for a team that has had its share of hard luck thus far, including two losses by a combined total of just seven points. And with the conference opener against Reynolds less than two weeks away, it was also a well-timed confidence builder.
“Everything clicked for us,” mentioned West head coach Chip Petree. “On offense we had over 250 total yards and on defense we held Reagan to minus-nine yards in the first half.
“We also blocked two punts on special teams (including one by Luke Elliott that resulted in a Josh Peterson touchdown) and had two returns for scores. Everyone was productive last Friday night.”
In addition to his kickoff return, Finkley also reached paydirt with a 38-yard punt return.
Offensively, Maurice Hughes had his most impressive night thus far, completing 8 of 16 throws for 148 yards and two touchdowns. On the receiving end, Andrew Bodenheimer caught four passes for 67 yards and a touchdown. Tight end Brooks Ore also had a TD grab.
On defense, Kyle Jarrett set the tone with a pair of sacks in the first half. Cory Losselyong closed out the scoring by falling on a loose ball in the end zone in the final quarter of play.
Now 2-2, the Titans hope to climb above the .500 mark this week when they travel to Glenn, a team they haven’t beaten in nine years.
“Good program, great athletes and a history of beating West,” added Petree when asked about the Bobcats. “We know what we’re up against.”
• In JV play, West blanked Carver 6-0 and is now 2-0.
