The final result was a beautiful mix of Titan green and gold. For the second year in a row, the West Forsyth girls golf team was the runaway winner of the Central Piedmont Conference championship. The Lady Titans dominated CPC play throughout the regular season and Monday’s 18-hole round was no different. Led by the play of Sarah Kate Caudle, Laura Ashby and Erica Clinard, West easily outdistanced runner-up South Rowan 170-198. The win lifted West’s overall record to an amazing 34-1 and provided significant momentum heading into next week’s regional play at Salem Glen in Clemmons. It was also the second consecutive conference crown for the Titans. Individually, Caudle captured CPC tournament medalist honors for the second straight year. She fired an 84 to lead the field. Ashby, the CPC Player of the Year for the past two years, was two strokes back at 86. Clinard finished with a score of 98 to place fifth. Leigh Anne Reid shot 104 to record an eighth-place finish. Guiding the Titans this fall has been coach Betty Ashby. Following Monday’s tournament, she was chosen as the CPC Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season. Rounding out the team scores were Reynolds-209, North Davidson-218 and East Rowan 336. Mount Tabor and Davie County were both disqualified. |
