Then you should have been in attendance at the Winston-Salem Nationals baseball complex last Sunday afternoon. Taking on Walnut Cove in the third round of the winners bracket, the Southwest Blues produced a series of offensive fireworks that led to a 15-5 victory and their third consecutive win in District Two Minor division Little League baseball play. Of those fireworks, none were brighter than Jacob Kennedy’s two-run homer in the second inning — a sizzling 230-foot bomb that easily cleared the fence in centerfield. The blast pushed the Southwest Forsyth lead to 7-0 and, in spite of a brief rally by Walnut Cove in the third frame, virtually sealed the victory. Walnut Cove took advantage of a series of Southwest errors to score five runs in the third. But Southwest answered immediately, scoring four in the fourth and four more in the sixth. On the mound, Kennedy took over in relief in the third and pitched effectively. Nicholas Boyles started the game by pitching a scoreless first and Alex Saphar followed with a shutout frame in the second. The win advances Southwest into a winner’s bracket showdown against Northwest Forsyth on Tuesday afternoon. Other SWF teams also unbeaten Two other Southwest Forsyth baseball teams are also unbeaten on the district level. The Junior division team has won its first two games and will play again on July 8th. The 11-year old all-stars won their first game in pool play and will meet Davie American in round two on July 5th.
