The Village of Clemmons council heard promising news about the crime rate at its Monday meeting.
Capt. Brad Stanley of the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Department then talked about public safety in Clemmons. “Basically, crime is down in the Village of Clemmons,” he said. Part one crimes, which include more serious felonies, is down six percent, and part two crimes, which include less serious misdemeanors, is down 3.96 percent.
Council member Chris Jones asked Stanley if he believed a correlation existed between the Village allotting grants for hiring more sheriffs and a decrease in crime rates. Sheriff Stanley agreed by saying that police officer presence is one of the biggest deterrents of crime.
Next, the council voted on requesting that a plaque be made commemorating the original site where settlers stayed while surveying the Wachovia Tract. The decision carried unanimously.
Council Member Larry McClelland asked if the land is the authentic site where settlers camped while surveying the Wachovia tract. The N.C. Department of Transportation will establish the authenticity of the site.
The council also gathered a consensus accepting the possibility of receiving the parcel of land from the Department of Transportation to erect a park or campsite on it.
The motion for a revised Metropolitan Planning Organization adding Midway to the Transportation Advisory Committee and allocating costs to Clemmons and Midway passed unanimously.
