Mayor steps down next
week; he was involved
in 1986 incorporation

Ed Brewer will step away from his obligations to the Village of Clemmons next week, ending more than two decades of service from the time incorporation was just an idea.
He helped write the incorporation papers in 1986 and served as village attorney, council member and finally mayor. His laundry list of roles ended with his defeat last month for re-election.
“I’m really having trouble adjusting to being unimportant, opening my own door and things,” he said.
His role as jokester will continue. Brewer is considered — and this by unanimous consent — one of the funniest guys in Clemmons. He is an endless fountain of one-liners and anecdotes.
But he is serious about his home. He says Clemmons is growing up just fine.
While some wax nostalgic about the way Clemmons was, Brewer actually witnessed it first-hand as a native son and doesn’t share the nostalgia about turning back the clock.
“There was a crossroads, and that’s about it. Most of the streets were dirt,” he said. “It has always been nice, and it’s about as nice as it has ever been. We have more opportunities .... "
