Making the most of an inch of snow

A little snow couldn’t keep postal carrier Sue Latham from her appointed rounds in Old Meadowbrook.

It wasn’t much of a snow, but Clemmons and Lewisville children have learned they can’t be picky. Even if it’s only a little snow, they know to get outside before it disappears.
Thursday’s about-an-inch snow cancelled school, and the snow turned to rain by the time most of the children were up that morning.
Maine natives Becky and Brian Hallock in Clemmons West built two snowmen. Their parents, John and Denise, moved the family here in 2000 to get away from the heavy snows. Their children, both students at West Forsyth High, quickly put the snow to good use.
The rain was heavy at times, and it took a steep hill for sleds to work. But that didn’t keep Josh Smith, 9, and Amber Hartley, 9, both students at Clemmons Elementary, from making their sleds work.
Clemmons Middle students Katie Johnson and Lyndsay Stombaugh, both 13, also had limited success with their sled on Castleton Drive.
A collection of children on Breckenridge Lane hurled snowballs and tried their sleds even as rain soaked them.
The snow, the first of the winter, was pleasant and pretty and fleeting. Rain and rising temperatures melted most of it by midday.
