Golfers wanted: tourney will raise funds for library

By Summer Smith - The Lewisville Civic Club will host the Lewisville Charity Golf Tournament on Friday, September 15 at Salem Glen Country Club in Clemmons.
The purpose of the event is to raise money for the new Lewisville Branch Library. Forsyth County Commissioners have approved $3.4 million for library construction, but there are still some items that will not be covered by that amount.
“Our primary goal is to raise funds to support programs at the library, which is the portion of library that the county does not fund,” explained Civic Club president Ed Rachlin. “These programs may include enhancements such as library programs, children’s theme items, sound systems, young adult and senior projects, books and other things needed beyond what the county will provide.”
Rachlin recruited Civic Club members and former mayor Bob Stebbins to chair the event. Stebbins said the club set an initial fundraising goal of $20,000-$25,000, and they are very close to reaching that mark.
“Right now we have raised nearly $20,000, but that is before any expenses. We want to give the library at least $20,000 after we pay all the costs of the tournament, so we still need additional money to be sure we reach our goal,” Stebbins stated.
“We have received a lot of support from many areas. The Friends of Library and other local organizations have given us financial and moral support. We are also getting ‘in kind’ donations. For example, Mike Naglieri, manager of Lowes Foods, is preparing lunches and supplying water and drinks for the golfers.”
Stebbins said one group of 10 individuals each gave $50 in memory of Dorothy Moser Holder, one of Lewisville’s first librarians. Several people who cannot or do not wish to play in the tournament but want to support the library are sponsoring other teams.
Tournament Details
The captain’s choice tournament is open to golfers of all skill levels. The driving range will open at 11:30 a.m. on September 15, and lunch will be served at noon. Play will begin at 1 p.m. with a shotgun start.
The entry fee of $65, half of which is tax-deductible, includes a box lunch, nonalcoholic beverages, golf cart and tournament play. Beer will be available for purchase.
Each golfer will receive an insulated carry case filled with gifts. Prizes will be awarded in the following categories: hole-in-one, nearest to pin on a par-3 hole, longest drive on a par-5 hole, first place team, and second place team.
Two holes on the course will be designated for special “hole-in-one” prizes. The first person to score a hole-in-one will receive either a car from Modern Automotive or a three-day cruise from Cruise Connections.
Other prizes will include a putter and four rounds of golf donated by Salem Glen.
The tournament is limited to 30 teams. Stebbins said approximately 15 to 18 teams have committed to play, and more are needed.
“The response has been pretty good, but we need another 12 or so teams to participate. We would like to get them signed up by mid-August.”
Sponsorship Opportunities
Several tournament sponsorship opportunities are also available. Diamond sponsors pay $5,000 or more and receive major recognition, including four signs on the course and names on stationery and publicity documents, and are able to place eight golfers in the tournament at no additional charge.
Platinum sponsors pay $1,000 or more for four additional golfers and two course signs. Gold sponsors pay $500 or more for two additional golfers and one sign. Silver sponsors pay $350 or more for one additional golfer in the tournament and split signage.

The last two sponsorship levels are Bronze at $150 and Patron at less than $150.
“We started going after sponsorships in January and have done pretty well with that,” said Stebbins. “We are continuing to make those contacts but are also working on coordinating everything for the day of the tournament.”
The top three sponsor levels for the Lewisville Charity Golf Tournament at this time are as follows:
Diamond: Shugart Enterprises, LLC.
Platinum: R.J. Reynolds Foundation; John W. Byrd, Financial Investments; Vienna Village Retirement Community; Poindexter Lumber Company, Inc.; Merrikay and Tom Brown.
Gold: BB&T, Lewisville; Bingham Associates, Gordon Bingham; Calloway, Johnson, Moore & West, PA; Coventry Design, John Sangimino; Crome Design and Signs; Dorothy Moser Holder (in memoriam); Lanier Williams Realty; Lewisville Drug Store; Lowes Foods, Lewisville; Moonlight Design; Nehemiah Construction; Security Underwriters; Subway Restaurant, Lewisville.
Stebbins said any and all donations are encouraged.
