- American Legion Post 522 will hold a Memorial Day Service on Monday, May 29 at noon in Lewisville’s Shallowford Square.
The highlight of the service will be the dedication of the new Battle Cross Memorial. A battle cross is the arrangement of a fallen soldier’s boots, rifle and helmet. Its use began in World War I as a way for grave restorers to identify the dead. Since then, when a service man or woman is lost on the battlefield, comrades erect a Battle Cross to mark the spot and memorialize his or her supreme sacrifice.
Congresswoman Virginia Foxx is expected to attend the service. The guest speaker will be Timothy May.
Restored military vehicles will be on display beginning at 11:30 a.m.
The service is free and open to the public.
