They lined up to say their good-byes last week at West Forsyth High, sending principal Kurt Telford off to Guilford County.
Ending a six-year term at West, Telford will assume the same duties at Eastern Guilford High, the school that burned last year.
Telford confessed to some nervousness and reluctance to leave West, but he’s ready for the challenge.
He wore his familiar green West Forsyth jacket last week, trying to get the most out of it before he changes schools.
His wife, Betty, ever-present at West athletic events, said the new assignment makes sense.
“That community needs him. Those kids have been devastated losing their school. That staff has been devastated, and Kurt is the person for them,” she said.
Telford was still the person for West last week as teachers and the staff were unanimous in their praise.
“He’s an outstanding man,” assistant principal Brian Holt said. “He’s a great listener, a great motivator. He will be sorely missed. He is a great advocate for kids..." Subscribe to the Courier, P.O. Box 765, Clemmons, NC 27012.
