The Clemmons Courier - “I’ve had it ever since the 7th, 8th grade. I don’t know where I got it,” said Mike Parks concerning his Clemmons High School pennant. “I graduated from Clemmons in 1955.”
They were called the Clemmons Blues. They were located in the large brick building between Clemmons Library and Clemmons First Baptist Church.
Parks played “6-man football” back when the small schools such as Clemmons High had only 6 men on the field. “I still got my old football jersey, and I still got my old chin strap that I wore on my football helmet,” he reminisced.
Parks also played on the Clemmons High basketball team. “You wouldn’t believe how they got as many bleachers as they did in the Old Clemmons Gym,” he remembers.
“I remember riding my tricycle down Lewisville-Clemmons Road when it was a dirt road,” Parks recalled. Parks was born in a house in Clemmons off Stadium drive and has lived in Clemmons all his life.
The last graduating class of Clemmons High School was 1956. That’s when Southwest High School opened, and the high school building became an elementary school.
