Lewisville Council honors Steve Garland

After 16 years of service, Steve Garland is retiring his post as one of Lewisville’s two town attorneys.
Garland, who has served as town attorney since Lewisville incorporated in 1991, will officially vacate his position on March 31. Bo Houff, who has shared the duties of town attorney with Garland since 1994, will take over as Lewisville’s sole legal counsel.
The Town Council honored Garland during its March 8 meeting.
“I would be surprised if there is anyone in this room who does not know Steve,” said Mayor Tom Lawson. “He has been a phenomenal friend and attorney to everyone who has known him, and he has touched everyone who has served this town in any capacity.
“This is bittersweet for us because we will miss him and his expertise, but we are glad he will have more time to do the things he enjoys.”
In addition to his duties in Lewisville, Garland has also served as town attorney for Walkertown since 2003 and Tobaccoville since 1991.
“From the start, I have always enjoyed and been proud of my service in Lewisville,” Garland said. “The town attorney always plays a supporting role, and it is the council, town staff and the citizens who should get the credit for" ....
