'March Math Madness' reigns at Ward

Mrs. Pam Carroll's third grade class won the multiplication tournament.

March Madness was in full effect last week at Marvin Ward Elementary School.
From March 5 through 9, students and staff participated in the Second Annual March Madness Multiplication Tournament. The tournament is designed for third, fourth and fifth graders and is based on the NCAA Basketball Tournament.
Each class works as a team to learn their multiplication facts and prepare themselves for the competition. Teams compete against one another, displaying their speed and accurate knowledge of multiplication facts.
The “final four” teams competed for the championship on March 9, and Mrs. Pam Carroll’s third grade class, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, emerged victorious.
Second, third and fourth place went to Mrs. Anne Campbell’s fourth grade class, the North Carolina State Wolfpack; Mrs. Scarlett Mooney’s fourth grade class, the Gonzaga Bulldogs; and Mr. Jay Callahan’s third grade class, the Florida Gators, respectively.
