Ashley McCormick, Glenn Shaver win contest

By Dwight Sparks - Gentle Readers, it all comes down to this. This is the final week of our glorious start — our last time to milk this cash cow until August’s football season. It’s your time to troll one more time for our coveted Cap of Caps, the Call of Calls and the grand prize which has — so far — rested comfortably in our bank vault.
This is the last time the ball will bounce for us. The last time we will have together until West Forsyth High’s Titans are ready for another season.
Parting is such sweet sorrow, the bard said. And he didn’t know the half of it.
But before we part, let’s announce last week’s winners and dole out the cash.
ASHLEY McCORMICK, COME ON DOWN!
Ashley is a High Point girl, horning in on the hometown folks to steal away the cash. She missed five games.
Second place?
GLENN SHAVER, COME ON DOWN!
Shaver also missed five, but fell to second on the tie breaker. He and wife Cele made a late season dash for the cap.
Now for our coveted non cash awards:
CLOSE BUT NO CIGAR AWARD: To others missing five — Tom Reebel; missing six, Edmund Horne, Larry Stombaugh, Ron Lovelace Sr., Caroline Bobbitt, Steve Sechrist, Gray Bovender, Doug Hill, Lovely Leslie Madigan, Clark Golden, Donna Carter.
FOOTBALL AWARD: To Nancy Hendrix, missing 12.
Now to our Mail Bag.
• This from Ali Madigan at UNC, “Hard to believe there are not many contests left and not many more chances to ask for Mom to send money.”
• R. Allen Brown, “Thanks for the memories.”
• Lovely Leslie, “Winding down ... only one more chance to win a cap. Go Heels. Go Madigans.”
• Doug Hill, “There is nothing witty to say except that I don’t know squat about picking winners, but I have had fun matching wits with the other participants. Tell us again how many times we can enter each week, because if I could place multiple picks I think I could come a lot closer to securing me a Cap of Caps and that cash. I have one more week to make amends for a very sorry selection season on my part. Still awaiting that C-O-C.”
One final week, Gentle Readers. Good luck to all.
