Students at Southwest Elementary School have been digging into their pockets to raise funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
The fundraiser began on February 5 and will conclude this Friday, February 23. Students in all classes have brought in pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters and dollar bills, and they have already exceeded their initial goal.
“We set our goal at $500, but in the first four days alone we raised $1,880,” said guidance counselor Susan Twyman.
At the Courier’s press time on Tuesday, the total stood at nearly $3,000.
“Each class has its own collection container. Some classes set up competitions, such as boys versus girls. Practically every class has brought in money every day,” said Twyman.
The donations are being placed into an account with the State Employees’ Credit Union.
“They have been a great help and have been very patient with me in counting our donations, and they have even made donations themselves.”
Students have also been using their coins to vote on fun activities to be performed by Southwest’s administrators. There are three containers in the front lobby... Subscribe to the Clemmons Courier, P.O. Box 765, Clemmons, NC 27012.
