Funeral service held for Sgt. Howard Plouff

Law enforcement officers came to pay their respects to Sgt. Howard Plouff.

The funeral service for Sgt. Howard Joseph Plouff II of Lewisville were held Tuesday morning at Holy Family Catholic Church in Clemmons.
Plouff, 41, died at 10:42 p.m. on February 23 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, about 21 hours after sustaining a gunshot wound to the face during a brawl at the Red Rooster nightclub on Jonestown Road in Winston-Salem.
Several fights broke out inside the club, which had been rented for a private party, around 2 a.m. Friday morning. Four off-duty sheriff’s deputies who had been contracted to provide security at the club called the Winston-Salem city police for assistance, and Plouff was one of the responding officers.
The fights then moved outside into the parking lot. As the officers, including Plouff, made their way into the melee, gunshots rang out from the crowd. Plouff was hit once in the face.
