West Forsyth High School’s teacher-soldier Sgt. Rick McVicker returned to campus last week for a visit with his old teaching buddies and students.
Home from duty in Iraq, he will return to the war next week. By next August, he expects to be back at West Forsyth in the classroom.
He spoke to some of the seniors on Friday and returned Monday to visit his fellow teachers. Last April, West Forsyth staged an emotional send-off for McVicker, a history teacher and long-time member of the Army Reserve.
Last Friday, McVicker presented principal Kurt Telford with an American flag that had flown on his military vehicle during 32 combat missions in Iraq. The school was also honored by the N.C. Committee for the Support of the Guard and Reserve, for backing McVicker while he was away from home and school.
