Clemmons Council member Chris Jones has been elected second vice president of the North Carolina League of Municipalities, a voluntary, nonpartisan association of 542 cities, towns and villages in North Carolina. His election and installation took place at the NCLM 2008 Annual Conference held in Charlotte Oct. 12-14. He will serve a one-year term of office and, subject to annual election, move from second vice president to first vice president to president.
The village board presented a resolution Monday praising Jones for the accomplishment.
Jones has been on the village board for 11 years.
“This is quite a milestone,” said Mayor John Bost, adding that the village could benefit by having a resident member who rose to the rank of president of the League of Municipalities.
“That would be considerably beneficial to the village in terms of lobbying,” he said.
Jones’ wife Susan attended the Monday session, and he pointed to her as being supportive and helpful during his years of service to the board. And he included the council.
“Whatever I’ve done with the league I’ve had the support of my council,” he said.
Jones previously served as a member of the NCLM Board of Directors.
Other League officers elected include: President, Mayor Gerald A. (Jerry) Jones Jr., Morehead City; and First Vice President, Council Member Rodney Locks, Brevard. Charlotte Mayor Pro Tem Susan Burgess is the immediate past president.
