Thursday's Internet Edition, July 24, 2008.
The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at the G. Galloway Reynolds Community Center, 131 Lucy Lane. The town’s PARTF grant application will also be discussed, and community input will be welcome. The architectural firm of Hayes, Seay, Mattern & Mattern Inc. has been working with Lewisville’s Parks, Recreation and Cultural Development Board to develop the master plan. Park features include paved walking trails, a 150-person pavilion, a 5-person pavilion, a nine-holf disc golf course, a multi-purpose athletic field, a nature trail with par course stations, swings and a picnic area, bocce ball courts and a spray park. The park’s total cost has been estimated at $1.9 million. The town is in the process of applying for a North Carolina Parks and Recreation Trust Fund (PARTF) grant to help fund construction. There is only one PARTF application cycle per year, and the maximum available grant is $500,000. Town officials have decided to split the park’s construction into two phases, which will allow them to apply for two PARTF grants. Phase I of the construction is projected to include the paved walking trails; large pavilion; disc golf course; playground village; 300’x150’ multi-purpose athletic field; large restroom facility; roads, parking and sidewalks; and site preparation. Total cost for Phase I is expected to be $1 million. Phase II is projected to include the nature trail system; small pavilion; spray park; bocce ball court; lake with boardwalk and gazebo; small restroom facility; maintenance operations facility; and site preparation. Total cost for Phase II is expected to be $952,560. Lewisville must submit its PARTF application by January 31, 2007 and must also approve the draft plan by that time. The application will be reviewed by the North Carolina Parks and Recreation Authority. This 11-member board will award PARTF grants in May and July. All residents are encouraged to attend the December 14 meeting. The Town Council will hold its regular monthly meeting that same evening at 7:30. |
